so this -- what everybody is talking about, obama and hillary clinton on "60 minutes." >> you guys in the press are encourageable. i was literally elected four days ago. >> yeah and as you know i'm still secretary of state, so i'm out of politics and i'm forbidden from even hearing these questions. you know, look obviously the president and i care deeply about what is going to happen for our country in the future and i don't think either he or i can make predictions about what is going to happen tomorrow or the next year. >> stephanie: but charlie pierce can. >> we can't make prediction but boy that bobby jindal is a jerk isn't he? they should take that act on the road. the sly little glances at each other and stuff. [ laughter ] >> stephanie: what do you think? >> i -- it is 2013 i refuse to say anything about 2016 until 2015. however, i think the one person that everybody is sleeping on on the republican side is scott walker. if he managed to stay unconvicted in this milwaukee john doe thing, i think he is the one person nobody is paying at attention to. he is a republican governor

there's a reason why barack obama has transitioned his political operation into this non-profit messaging operation to reinforce the direction he wants to go with the country at the grassroots level to target those seats. i don't see how and where the republican party beyond, you know, calling a committee meeting here and there has been on the ground in neighborhoods doing the very difficult, out-of-the-box work relating to voters. and so unless they do that, unless they message is really honed and fine-tuned, it's going to be very difficult to hold on as the president's momentum grows. we'll see what happens in response to the state of the union. we'll see what happens in response to immigration and other issues. but, right now, to your point, i think we've got a lot of work to do and it starts with making sure that you have your base behind the steps you want to take. you just can't go out and say, oh, obama is a bad guy, follow us. >> now, governor, talking about base behind, political says the rnc meeting focused on broadening the appeal to minority voters. and i'm quoting the article

that's where ali sat down with eric kantor to discuss washington's next big political battle budget. >> when you look at the options out there, president obama's budget proposal and paul ryan's offer, they both don't do what guys say need to be done. now you have a proposal that said you will balance the budget in years. i asked paul ryan this and i can't get an answer. how? it's going to hurt. >> there new base lines in the budget. as we know, some of the difficulty and the differences in washington were centered around the method of accounting whether it's static or dynamic. when you raise taxes, that $650 billion of additional tacks that went in because of the cliff deal, that adjusts the base line. that is going to make the numbers look differently. right? we will have to make choices. no question about it. we have committed to putting a budget out there that will bring it to balance within years. >> the fact is nobody seems to want to own up to a budget that will hurt. >> the ryan budget, the last didn't balance in almost 30 years. the way we were trying to move said look. like
